Keith Barends

is a Chartered HR Practitioner [CHRP (SA)] with the South African Board of Personnel Practitioners, a professional Human Resource body. He is also a Assessor in Human Resource and Labour Law skills programs and qualifications. He holds a B.Com (Hons) Degree as well as a National Diploma in Public Administration and post-graduate diplomas in Human Resources, Management and Labour Relations. Keith has completed the course work for his masters degree in law and will complete the dissertation at the end of 2008.

Keith has gained extensive (10 years) experience in Strategic Management in the discipline of Human Resource Management and Human Resource Development in his position as the Regional Employee Relations Manager at the SA Post Office Ltd. He has headed and completed a number of projects involving Organisational Change and Industrial /Employee Relations. He has a practiced ability and competency to audit and design policies which he successfully aligns these to strategic business imperatives.

Keith is a seasoned negotiator assisting companies in salary and collective agreement negotiations. He has extensive Conciliation, Arbitration and Conflict Resolution skills and draws on his extensive knowledge of Labour Law. Keith is also Commissioner/panelist for the Hairdressing and Canvas / Rope Making Bargaining Councils where he conciliates and arbitrates labour disputes.

Hans Pretorius

is a former local government administrator, having taken management responsibilities for strategic planning, human resources management, financial management, legal advice and public relations. Having served in management positions in local government over a period of twenty five years, he was promoted Chief Executive for the City of Witbank during the pre-interim, interim and final phases of democratisation in South Africa. During this time he was responsible to guide the municipal council on Constitutional changes and to promote developmental local governance. He proposed and implemented a model on strategic management for the City of Witbank, based on study research for a Masters in Development Administration with the University of Pretoria.

Already qualified in law, a Masters in Business Management and a further Masters in Applied Ethics, he entered into consultancy in 2006 to work with leading business consultants and subject matter experts in rendering comprehensive business support. He follows a unique approach to eliminate underlying obstacles to acceptable standards of labour productivity, based on cause and effect as follows: Advancement of a positive life attitude > ensures a positive work approach > secures increased labour productivity

He has chosen to focus on market needs in providing –
  • Professional advice to individuals on career development and financial planning;
  • Organisation development interventions, and
  • Skills development and legal services.
Hans has always been passionate about community service, development and training, “putting theory to business practice” and “incorporating business best practices into theory”. He gained experience in lecturing at the former Pretoria Technical College, was appointed study leader for two Masters Diploma students and recently supplemented his lecturing experience with Open College South Africa in Somerset-West. He completed the assessor training programme and was declared competent.
